I'm making a home cinema computer system for the living room, i got a 42" HD TV and surround sound.?

what would i need for a top of the range cinema system and what priblems can you for see?

Answer (by Twisted_Ace):
Do you genuinely mean "top of the range" (which will cost you anything from £50,000 upwards), or do you just mean something that you can afford? They are usually two different things...

Are home cinema systems easy to install?

Was wondering how easy they are to install? is there lots of cables and what if i wanted to put them in my roof corners? and does anyone now anywhere i can get good chaep systems?

Answer (by Gabriel):
They're incredibly easy to install. There are a lot of wires but you just need to plug them in and run them to the correct spot. If you want to mount a speaker to the wall it can still be very easy. Most surround speakers come with brackets so you'll just need to put a screw in the wall and hang them there. Unless you want to get fancy with it you can just run the wire up the corner of the wall. If you'd like to run the wire through the wall it's quite a bit tougher but can still be done by someone who isn't a professional. Look up how to do it online. Cheap places to buy them. Best buy is the only store that will have cheap systems. Beware, to some extent you do get what you pay for. You'll be able to find good deals at crutchfield.com or if you'd consider used or refurbished ebay would be fine.

why would a 5.1 home cinema system only work through 2 speakers when a system test confirms all speakers are ?

functioning properly? SC you may be very close, the tv and cinema system came as a package (both LG) and we were advised to buy the optical cable of which you speak, the problem, however, is that the dvd player does not support this type of cable, although the tv does. am i to assume then that we cannot get sound from all 5 speakers, ever? unless of course when playing a dvd. we were advised to buy the coax digital optical cable which came with 2 adaptors, neither of these fit any part of the dvd, which is also the reciever, incidentally.

Answer (by Stop Ranting):
In order to achieve 5.1 audio you need to have either a digital optical (toslink) or digital coax cable (orange). Your DVD player, unless it's very old, will have one of these outputs and your receiver, unless it's very old or very cheap, will have both of these types of inputs. Then you set the receiver to go to that digital input when on DVD. EDIT: If the DVD player and the receiver are the same device, no cable is needed. If you want other sources to play surround, they must have digital out (source) to digital in (EITHER optical OR coax OR HDMI) from the device to the receiver. There are ways to convert from optical to coax or vice versa if that is the issue.

would this home cinema system work with my xbox 360?

http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/5337046/c_1/1%7Ccategory_root%7CHome+entertainment+and+sat+nav%7C10199181/c_2/2%7Ccat_10199181%7CHome+audio%7C10199325/c_3/3%7Ccat_10199325%7CHome+cinema+speaker+systems%7C10199332.htm please help me lol and is it good for the money??

Answer (by 93dt):
definitely yes! It will support Xbox 360, in fact, all HT Systems are supported by the 360, all you do is plug the red and white plug into the input on the back of the home theater system and set the audio settings on the Xbox to Surround! Now i would recommend though you get an "up scaling" DVD player, cause this will make a DVD look the best quality you have ever seen! Good value to!

A good home cinema system?

Hi, I'm going to spend some money on a new home cinema that must be able to give 5.1 surround out of an xbox 360, TV, blu ray etc. SO can someone recommend a system that complies with the following; XBOX 360/PS3; the cable from 360 and PS3 are both HDMI, and I wont opt for using the component cable with the optical out for the 360 so the system needs both HDMI in and out. Gives decent quality sound on normal TV (I will be buying mainly for gaming and blu ray however) 5.1, and nothing else. Not over £200, unless by a very small margin. Give good quality sound (but I'm not talking studio quality spec), and decent bass aswell. I am able to mix and match components, IE buy a good amp that has HDMI in/out, and then buy seperate speakers (I endorse this if it gives me optimum sound quality and lower price, because I generally don't like buying kits) Size is no problem, and I would sacrifice size for price (so would go for a bigger speaker if it is cheaper but gives same quality) I don't care about looks, but would be more inclined to buy a black system to go with the other stuff around it. I don't care about make either, because I don't want to spend £100 alone just so that it can say "Sony" on it. Thanks for any help people.

Answer (by Twisted_Ace):
Your budget is way too little for what you want. Good quality sound and decent bass will cost a whole heck of a lot more than £200. A halfway decent A/V/ amp will set you back around £300-£400 and a 5.1 speaker system the same. Spend anything less and you are just wasting your money.

What is the best home cinema system to buy with £200 (I have a LG Scarlet 47" LCD TV)?

Any opinions/suggestions would be nice! Thanks!

Answer (by Twisted_Ace):
You have (probably) spent the best part of £1,000 on a very nice TV. Why do you want to cripple it, by hooking it up to some cheap and nasty 'supermarket special' home cinema system? 'Cos that's all £200 will get you. You need to be looking at spending £500 at the very least, to get something that is worthwhile listening to.
